New Delhi, 15: Under the ‘Swachh
Bharat Mission’ (Rural), more than 5 crore household toilets have been
constructed throughout the country. The last three years have witnessed the
construction of 50 Lakh 8 thousand 601 toilets in the rural areas of
Maharashtra alone and 16 Districts 34 Thousand villages have been declared open-defecation
free.
The Ministry of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation published its
report regarding the works executed under Swachh Bharat Mission’ (Rural), in
the rural areas of the country. To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal
sanitation coverage and to put focus on sanitation, the Prime Minister of
India, Shri Narendra Modi, launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October,
2014.
3 Lakh Villages declared Open Defecation Free
in the country
On 2nd of October, 2014 there were 38.70% household toilets
in the rural areas of the economy; however, this percentage has reached 76.26%
by 14th of January 2018. Today, 5 crore 94 Lakh 45 Thousand
household toilets have been built in the country and 3 lakh 9 Thousand 161
villages in the country have been declared open defecation free. A total of 303
Districts Countrywide have been declared open defecation free, of which, 16
Districts belong to Maharashtra.
Maharashtra’s 34 Thousand Villages declared open defecation free (ODF)
In the year 2015-16, 6053 villages were declared ODF. The number
increased to 21 Thousand 702 in the year 2016-17. Today, the number has soared
to 34 thousand 157 villages. In the year 2015-16, 14.94 percent of the villages
were ODF, and today this percent has rose to 84.30 percent.
Outstanding Work done in 30 Districts of
Maharashtra
Maharashtra has excelled in constructing 100 percent household toilets
in the 30 Districts of Maharashtra. 80-90 percent of the works have been
executed in the Districts of Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Wahim, Yavatmal, Buldhana and
Gadchiroli. The construction of the household toilets would get completed soon.
Lets speak about Cleanliness in Maharashtra
In the last three years, 50 lakh 8 thousand 601 household toilets have
been constructed in the State. In the
year 2014-15, 4 lakh 31 Thousand 34 toilets have been constructed. In the year
2015-16, 8lakh 82 Thousand and 88, in the year 2016-17- 19 lakh 17 Thousand 191
and in 2017-18 – 17 Lakh 78 Thousand 288 toilets have been constructed. In the
year 2015-16 the percent of open defecation in the State was 14.94, whereas now
this has reached to 84.30 percent.
16 Districts of the State declared Open
Defecation Free
Maharashtra’s 16 Districts – Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Jalna,
Ratnagiri, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Palghar, Raigad, Ahmednagar, Beed,
Kolhapur and Sindhudurg Distrcts have been declared open defecation free.
