Maharashtra Is Ahead In Higher Education Sector, say NIRF Rankings


             IIT Bombay Ranks 3rd and 11 Educational Institutes in the overall India Rankings

New Delhi, April 3: The Union minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday released the India Rankings 2018 for higher education institutions. The overall ranking list by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) included all the leading institutes in which the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has gained the third position and the Savitribai Phule Pune University has achieved 16th rank with nine other various institutes on the list in the overall educational rankings.
In a seminar held at vigyan Bhavan, the Union HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar announced the rankings of the higher educational institutes. In which, the rankings for Maharashtra educational Institutes, which include – Under Overall category, there are the 11 educational institutes -IIT Bombay holds 3rd position. Savitribai Phule Pune University ranks 16th, ranks, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai ranks 30th, Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research, Pune ranks 32nd, Homi bhabha National Institute, Mumbai ranks 41, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai ranks 49, Symbiosis International, Pune ranks 67, Dr. D.Y.Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune ranks 79,  SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai ranks 82, Bharati Vidyapeeth Pune ranks 93 and College of Engineering Pune ranks 96th.


NIRF Rankings For OVERALL
Under this, IIT Bombay, Mumbai has attained 3rd position and Savitibai Phule Pune University, Pune has attained 16th rank.
Under Engineering
Under this, IIT Bombay, Mumbai has attained 2nd position and Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai has attained 10th position.
Under Top 100 Universities:
Savitibai Phule Pune University, Pune has attained 9th rank and Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai has attained 19th position.
Under Top 100 Colleges:
Fergusson College Pune has reached 19th where as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology and bio-technology, Pune has attained 62nd position.
Under Top 100 Pharmacy Institutes:
Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai has attained 4th position and Bombay College of Pharmacy, Mumbai has attained 8th position.
Under Management Institutes:
IIT Bombay, Mumbai has attained 5th position where as National Institute of Industrial Engineering Mumbai has attained 14th position.
Under Top medical and Law Institutes:
Dr. D.Y.Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune has attained 18th position and Symbiosis Law College has attained 9th position.
The above ranking promotes competition among the Universities and drives them to strive for excellence. Government has also started a scheme called ‘Institutions of Eminence’ in which 20 institutions both public and private, would be selected on challenge method and they would be actively supported to come up in the global rankings.
In NIRF, to promote Research and Development in Higher Education, ‘Research and Professional Practices’ has been given the highest weight age of 40%, for ranking Universities.
