                                                                                                    Rajkumar Badole

New Delhi, 22: The efforts and follow up taken by the Maharashtra Government to ensure the persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes get all the central government reservation benefits has borne fruits. Maharashtra Social Justice and Special Assistance Minister Rajkumar Badole has informed the Centre would soon issue amended caste certificate format for the persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes.
This decision was taken during a meeting between a delegation of state officials led by Badole and Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot at his office in Shastri Bhavan on today. Mentioning this, while addressing a press conference at Maharashtra Sadan, later, Mr. Badole said centre’s decision would benefit all the persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes in various states, including Maharashtra. Member of Parliament Ramdas Athawale and Chairman of the Maharashtra SC Commission C L Thule were also present for this meeting with the union minister.
Speaking with the media persons, Mr. Badole told about having articulated the issue point-wise to Mr. Gehlot in today’s meeting. He also mentioned about Mr. Gehlot along with the secretary of his ministry being positive about the issue and accordingly a decision being also taken by the Centre to issue amended caste certificate format for the persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes soon.
The persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes all over the country would be benefited by this decision in availing the reservations in jobs and education in central and state governments, which in turn would have the way for their economic betterment. This decision has ensured a step forward towards addressing a 26 year old pending problem closely concerned with person converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes, told Mr. Badole.

The constitutional amendments made in 1990 had clearly stated about extending all the benefits of the scheduled castes to the persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes or Nav-Bauddhas, told Mr. Badole. He pointed out this decision was pending since 1990 for the lack of being implemented since day one. The persons converted to Buddhism from scheduled castes were devoid of reservation benefits meant for scheduled castes in jobs, education and economic development by the Central Government.
Mr.Badole studied the issue in-depth and persuaded a continues correspondence with Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry and his today’s meeting with Union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot was in the connection of this issue itself.
