Delhi, Aug 10: We take pride that we united
for a social and national cause, for; we had to free the Nation from the
clutches of the British Government. Now
that the Nation has been freed, let us all unite together to make India a
Progressive and a United Nation, was the precious piece of advice to all of us
from the great freedom fighters from Maharashtra, who visited Maharashtra
Information Centre today.
Six freedom fighters were felicitated and
honored by the President, Shri Ramnath Kovind on 9th August, 75th
Anniversary of ‘Quit India Movement’. Freedom fighters during the ‘Quit
India Movement’ and ‘Goa Mukti Movement’ from Maharashtra who were felicitated include
Mumbai’s Jethalal Amrutlal Shah, Jalgaon’s Shivaji Vitthal Marathe, Nagpur’s
Pundalik Daulatrao Gedam, Solapur’s Raghunath Ramchandra Mane (100+ year old),
Yavatmal’s Prahlad Krushnarao Rembhe and Chandrapur’s Pandurang Patil.
The office had organized for a
tete’-e-tete’ with the freedom fighters.
In a small function, Shri Jethalal Shah, Shri Raghunath Mane and Shri
Shivaji Marathe were felicitated by the Deputy Director, Dayanand Kamble and
PRO Amarjyot Kaur Arora.
While recalling his experiences during the Quit India
Movement,Shri Jethalal Shah said that he had actively participated in the Quit
India Movement in the Ahmednagar District. He was arrested twice and was one of
the accused in Ahmednagar Sarosh talkies Bomb case. During the clarion call
from Mahatma Gandhi for ‘Do or Die’, we all came together under the leadership
of Achyutrao Patwardhan. We organized meetings, processions and morchas. He was
imprisoned for the same, he recalled. Later, he joined Goa Mukti Movement. During this interaction, he also mentioned
that he retired from Directorate General of Information and Public Relations as
a Deputy Director.
Shri Shivaji Marathe narrated his incidents of the
pre-independence period. He said, he and 30 other satyagrahis were actively
involved during the Goa Freedom Movement. He along with former Finance
Minister, Late Shri Madhu Dandavate travelled hard from Belgaum, Sawantwadi,
Aronda on 17th August 1955, was later lathi-charged injuring all his
body.
Great salutes to freedom fighter from Solapur, Shri
Raghunath Mane. A person with a commanding voice, who is above 100 years, now,
was imprisoned by the britishers for 9 long months in Solapur, Vijapur and
Visapur Jails. He was fined a sum of Rs
100/- which was collected after auctioning his household items, he recalled. Shri
Mane said, the call from Mahatma Gandhi instilled confidence and strength in
him. To create awareness amongst the masses, he posted bill boards and posters
on the walls. He also recalled of working with freedom fighter Nana sinh Patil
and participating in the Goa Mukti Movement.
The GAD Deputy Secretary, Suresh Khade accompanied them for
their felicitation at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During this time he also shared his
views. Shri Dayanand Kamble gave a brief information, Sub-Editor Ritesh Bhuyar
compered and Information Officer proposed vote of thanks.
