Maharashtra’s moving towards Energy Independence Victory over darkness in remote areas through “Saubhagya” scheme: : Vishwas Pathak




New Delhi, 08 Dec. : In 2014, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the State government has taken many public utility policy decisions and with the financial support, the Energy department of Maharashtra has moved towards energy independence in last 4 years. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis in the state, powerful efforts made by Energy Minister Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the department of energy has developed new networks to connect last person in the state with electricity through “Saubhagya” scheme and darkness of unelectrified households has been dispelled. This information was given to the media by Shri Vishwas Pathak, The Director of MSEB Holding co. took Press Conference at Maharashtra Sadan, In New Delhi today.

In last 4-years, department of energy has successfully implemented, as to how electricity is supplied to every household by taking public utility policy decisions, put forward by Shri Vishwas Patahak. Maharashtra Government decided farmers as a focus point and through the energy department’s schemes provided electricity to farmers and has given relief to them. The Central Government has given financial assistance to the state through “Saubhagya” which is benefiting the people living in the remote areas. In the interior remote parts of district of Gadchiroli and Nandurbar, electrification work is still in progress which will be completed by end December 2018.


By the year 2014, even after paying money farmers were not getting electricity connections to their agriculture pumps. Especially, condition of farmers in Vidarbha and Marathwada region for getting electricity connection to agriculture pumps was worst. Considering this, the state’s energy department has filled the backlog of agriculture connections and every year giving connection to 1.2 million agriculture pumps, so far connection to 5 lakh agriculture pumps has been given. Still connections to agriculture pump of pending farmers being given under HVDS scheme. It will be one transformer for one or two farmers. This will prevent electricity theft and farmers will going to get sustainable power. It has been a big and significant decision of the year taken by the Department of Energy.

Load Shedding free state

In the last four years, from 2014, the government decided to first release the state from load shedding. Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Energy Minister Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule gave instruction to the department of energy to provide 24 hours electricity, keeping electricity rate in control. Not only that, for actions require to make state free from load shedding; these leaders stood firmly in support of administration. It is proud to say that at the outset there is no load shedding in the state.

Rise in power generation capacity

During last 4 years, the electricity generation capacity of MSPGCL has been augmented by 3360 MW. Along with this, many power purchase agreements made the electricity available to the demand and this has aided state to become load shedding free. With the decision in quality coal buying, coal transportation, tolling policy, the energy department has shown saving of around INR 1000 Crore in last 4 years. This has become beneficial to control the cost of electricity rates.

6700 kM of Transmission lines: During last 4 years, the transmission network of MSETCL in the state has become very robust. This transmission network is spread across 6700 KM and in last 4 years, 81 numbers of Extra High Voltage (EHV) Substations has been built. This added to 13,450 MVA in the state. The result of this on October 22nd, 2018 sudden rise in electricity demand of 25000 MW was satisfied without any interruptions. This was recorded as the most electricity demanding day in the state.

Exhale solar energy generation

Upcoming years are for Solar Energy and there is no other option to it, keeping this view Maharashtra Government and Energy Department has planned to promote solar energy. Considering the electricity demand of farmers in day time, the state has decided to deliver electricity supply from solar energy to 45 lacs farmers. For this, under Chief Minister Solar Agri-Feeder Scheme, farmers will get solar energy supply through 11kV overhead lines. Under this scheme 4 projects have already been started in the state, which are benefiting the farmers. Other than this by means of Solar rooftop electricity require for Government offices, Schools, Water supply schemes, lift irrigation schemes, domestic has started consumption electricity generated through solar energy.

Other than this, Shri Vishwas Pathak pointed out that many customer friendly decisions were taken by energy department such as 1000 MW of Energy Conservation policy, Gram Vidute Vyavasthapak, Deen Dayal Yojana, IPDS-2, concession in electricity tariff for Industries, 100 % electrification of Dalit habitation, Online electricity bill processing, Electric Vehicle Charging, MOD.

Electricity reached at Gharapuri Island

Gharpuri Island near Mumbai, This island is famous tourist place, tourist who went to island had to return back to Mumbai at noon due to non-availability of electricity, that was accomplished by Energy department and electricity finally reached to Gharapuri Island. MSEDCL provided electricity to Gharapuri Island on February 22, 2018 by laying 22 kM long cable under the sea and installing 3 distribution transformers and removing darkness from the 215 consumers by supplying 24 hours electricity.
