New Delhi, 7: The Women and institutions who have made exceptional
contribution as the game changers and catalysts of positive change in the
society will be felicitated with the prestigious ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ on
Tuesday, the International Womens’ Day at the hands of the President, Shri
RamnathKovind. Three women have been nominated from Maharashtra.
A total of 28 women will be conferred the prestigious ‘Nari Shakti
Puraskar’. The felicitation will be held at RashtrapatiBhavan on the 8th
of March in a special ceremony. The award ceremony for the year 2020 could not
be held in 2021 due to prevalent situation created by COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 28 Nari Shakti Puraskars
(14 each for both years) will be conferred on the individuals in recognition of
their exceptional work in rendering distinguished services towards empowerment
of women, especially vulnerable and marginalized women, across the country.
Three women from Maharashtra include Smt. VanitaBorade, first Woman Snake
Rescuer, Smt. SayleeAgavane, and an excellent Kathak Dancer suffering from Down
syndrome and Smt. Kamal Kumbhar for her exceptional work as a social
entrepreneur.
‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ is an initiative of the
Ministry of Women and Child Development to acknowledge the exceptional
contribution made by individuals and institutions, to celebrate women as game
changers and catalysts of positive change in the society.
The Winners of the Nari Shakti
Puraskar for the Year 2020 are from fields as diverse as entrepreneurship,
agriculture, innovation, social work, arts and crafts whereas the Winners of
the Nari Shakti Puraskar for the Year 2021 include Women from the fields of
linguistics, entrepreneurship, agriculture, social work, arts and crafts,
disability rights etc.
