Five Districts Felicitated With District Skill and Development Planning Awards

Maharashtra Gets highest number of Honours

 

New Delhi, 9: Under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s, District Skill and Development Planning Competition for the year 2020-21, Maharashtra’s five Districts, Sindhudurg, Satara, Thane, Solapur and Washim were honoured with the ‘Awardsfor Excellence’ for their outstanding workdone in their District, today.

An Award ceremony was organized by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) at AmbedkarBhavan.  The Secretary MSDE, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal presented a total of 30 Awards, in which a total of 30 Awards were presented. Of which, the highest number of five awards went to Maharashtra. Sharing the dais were, National Skill Development Corporation’s CEO, Vedmani Tiwari and Joint Secretary, Smt. AnuradhaVemuri.

The Awards for excellence in District Skill Development and planning was instituted under the SANKALP Project, which means, Skill acquisition and Knowledge awareness for livelihood promotion (SANKALP) by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in June 2018. The objective was to promote decentralized planning, acknowledge and reward the extraordinary and innovative work done by the Districts in the field of skill development.

Award For Excellence For Satara and Sindhudurg

After receiving the Award of Excellence, the SindhudurgDistrict collector, Smt. K. Manjulekshmi informed about various skill development initiatives undertaken for the year 2020-21, under DSDP. She said, the district had focussed mainly on the tourism sector, trained rural women in the hospitality sector, specific training in hospitality skills, language skills and cuisines, which yielded fruitful results and increase in incomes. Agro based industries mainly Devgad Alphonso, Bamboo training are some of the initiatives which were focussed upon, informed the collector.

Satara District was also awarded with the Certificate for Excellence.  The Collector, Shekhar Singh was pleased to receive the award and expressing gratitude towards the Chief Minister, he said that out of 467 districts, eight have been shortlisted for this prestigious recognition. The main focus is on agro-tourism, adventure, trained 450 Women who turned widows during Covid-19in the field of agriculture and training to healthcare workers in rural areas.

Certificate of Excellence ToWashim and Thane Districts

The Districts of Washim and Thane received the Certificate of Excellence Award for the Year 2020-21. Asssistant Commissioners, Smt. KavitaJawale and Smt. Sunandda Bajaj, Department of Skill Development and Employment Enterpreneurship from Washim and Thane received this honour at the hands of the Secretary, MSDE.

After receiving the Certificate of Excellence Award, Smt. Jawale apprised about the initiatives undertaken in Thane. She informed that the District’s 70% population falls under the age group of 15-30.  And Thane district is surrounded by rural, urban and tribal population.The main focus is on the youth, hence, a variety of specialized training activities are undertaken, else they would migrate to other districts in the quest for employment. The initiative of bringing the transgenders into the streamline is also taken care of, through various initiatives.

After receiving the Award, Assistant Commissioner, Smt. Sunanda Bajaj informed the office of Maharashtra Information Centre about the initiatives undertaken in the aspirational district of Washim. She said, the main industry of Washim is agriculture and agro based. The project ‘Hindu HrudaySamratBalasaheb Thackeray SamruddhiMahamarg’ passes through this district and we have generated employment for a number of young people.  For Jail inmates in the District, a variety of initiatives like baking, cookery and sheep rearing has been kept in focus to engage women inmates.

Letter of Appreciation To Solapur Districts

A total of 9 districts were felicitated with the letter of appreciation Award.  The Collector, Milind Shambharkar received this honour.  After receiving the award, he informed, Solapur is mainly known as a medical hub. The adjoining states and districts come here for their treatment. As a result, activities like training the youth and the local population under the DSDP initiative, people have been trained to handle medical related problems and employed in hospitals, processing of fruit related crops like bananas and grapes, softskill programmes has also been undertaken even during the Covid pandemic, he added
