New Delhi, 7: Maharashtra has ranked third on World Food Security Day for its outstanding performance in food security. The award was given by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, today.
On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, A award event was held in FDA Bhavan in New Delhi. This award was accepted by Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Parimal Singh at the hands of Union Minister, Mansukh Mandviya.
With
an aim of creating a competitive and positive change in the food safety
ecosystem in the country and to provide safe and nutritious food to the
citizens, the 4th State Food Safety Index (SFSI) was organized by
the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at FDA Bhavan. Maharashtra State ranked third in the country
amongst 20 largest States. The Food and Drugs Administration Commissioner, Shri
Parimal Singh received the Award at the hands of Union Health Minister, Shri
Mansukh Mandviya. The first two States include Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
Present
on the occasion were all the senior dignitaries of all the States including the
Maharashtra’s Joint Commissioner of FDA, Dr. Shashikant Kenkre and two other
Assistant Commissioners.
The
Index ranking of any State is determined on the basis of five parameters. The
Human Resources and institutional, compliances made by the state, Food testing
–infrastructure and Surveillance, Training and capacity and the Consumer
Empowerment. On the scale of 100,
Maharashtra received 70, whereas the States of TN and Gujarat received 82 and
77.5 respectively.
After receiving the Award, Dr Kenkre spoke to the officials of state government. He informed about the consistent efforts taken up by the Commissioner of FDA, Shri Parimal Singh. He said, that the Commissioner’s personal intervention and constant follow up with all the State’s Officers concerned, went a long way to help the State government in getting this national recognition. Adding further, he said that in the Year 2020-21, the State’s ranking in SFSI was 15th and this year we have reached on the third spot, which is commendable. The Award consists of a Citation and a Memento.
Eleven
Districts Get Recognition Under ‘Eat Right Challenge’
To
develop and execute a plan that supports a healthy, safe and sustainable food
environment through adoption of various Eat Right Initiative. Under this
initiative, Maharashtra’s eleven districts and cities were awarded under ‘Eat
Right Challenge’. This challenge for districts is envisioned as a competition
among districts to recognise their efforts in adopting and scaling up various
initiatives under Eat Right India. In order to motivate states to develop a
food strategy that supports healthy, safe and sustainable food environment
through participation.
On
the basis of parameters like increasing Licenses registration, Eat right
campus, clean vegetables and fruits, clean eateries and lanes, Training of
Aanganwadi sevikas, eleven cities and Districts were awarded today. These
include, Mumbai, Mumbai Sub-urban, Pune Municipal Corporation, Mira-Bhayandar
Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Thane Municipal
Corporation, Solapur, Wardha, Aurangab, Latur and Nashik.
