Maharashtra State Bags ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’ National Award

 




 Seven National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities

 

New Delhi, 24: Maharashtra State received the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’ National Award along with six more awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for the Year 2021 and Year 2022 today. A total of four Awards to the individuals and three awards to the government and non-government organisations were awarded at the hands of the President, Smt Draupadi Murmu.

 

An Award function was organized to celebrate the ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’, organized by Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The Awards were conferred on individuals, institutions, organizations and state/district for their outstanding achievements and work towards the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. Present at the dais were Dr Virendra Kumar, Union Minister For Social Justice and Empowerment, Union MoS for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Ramdas Athawale and Smt Pratima Bhoumik and department Secretary, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal.

 

The National Awards for the Year 2021 and 2022 were given under 14 categories.

Maharashtra has been the best state to implement 'Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan' and this award was presented to the Commissioner Disability Welfare, Pune. Smt. Vimal Popat Gavane and Shri Shubham Ram Narayan Dhoot of Pune District were felicitated in the (Sarvashresth Divyangjan) category. Shri Ashok Tukaram Bhoir was felicitated under ‘Sarvshresth Divyanjan category.

 

The Zilla Parishad of Akola won the prestigious Award in the (Effective Implementation of Disability Rights Act/Universal Identity Card System and Schemes for Persons with Disabilities) category and Shri Jaysingh Chavan, Nagpur was honoured in the (Best Person with Disabilities) category for Year 2022.

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Sangh, Aurangabad was awarded the National Award in (For Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities) categories.

 

Commissioner Disability, Govt of Maharashtra-

Institution For Empowering Persons with Disabilities

 

The commissioner Disability, Maharashtra Government was awarded with the prestigious Award under the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan ke karyanvayan’ category for 2022. Deputy Commissioner, Shri Sanjay Kadam received this prestigious Award.

 

This commissioner office has completed access audit of 180 buildings in the four major cities, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Nashik has been done under Accessible India Campaign. Out of which, proposals for 142 buildings have been sent, retrofitting works completed in 137 buildings with a total funding to Rs 2167.38 lakhs. The Utilization Certificate of Rs 1930.84 lakhs has been sent to the Union Government.

 

Akola Zilla Parishad – Institution Engaged in Empowering Persons With Disabilities

 

Established in 1962, the Zilla Parishad Akola has past 10 years actively undertaken the implementation of various schemes and programmes for the persons with disabilities particularly in rural areas. The Akola district administration conducted a divyang survey and identified 45,906 persons with disabilities out of which, more than 24,000 persons have been provided UDID cards.

            The Chief Executive Officer, Shri Saurabh Katiyar received the prestigious award at the hands of the President. The award was presented to the ZP in the ‘Divyangjan Ke Adhikar Adhiniyam’ category.

 

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Sangh – Institutions Engaged in empowering PwD

Aurangabad’s Mahatma Gandhi Seva Sangh was presented the prestigious award under the ‘Divyang Sashaktikaran Mein Karyarat Sarvshreshtha Sansthan’ category for 2022.

The organization provides social, educational and rehabilitation services and rights to people with various disabilities. Besides, a responsibility as Implementing Agency in respect to 9 District Rehabilitation Centres has been assigned to it.

Ashok Bhoir – National Award for Individual Excellence

Shri Ashok Tukaram Bhoir from Kalyan received the Award for the Year 2021 in the Sarvshresth Divyanjan Category for his outstanding achievements in the field of social work. He is a sportsperson and excelled in Javelin throw and shot put, despite having locomotor disability of 75% since birth. Having participated in four international events, he has provided employment to differently abled in the society.  He has been recognized as the ‘District Icon’ of Thane District.  

 

Sushri Vimal Gavhane – National Award for Individual Excellence

Pune’s Sushri Vimal Gavhane received the Award for the Year 2021 in the Sarvshresth Divyanjan Category for her outstanding achievements in the field of Health related programmes. She has locomotor disability of 42%, however, she works as a Lady Health worker in the PHC, Pune. She has done excellent work in vaccination, pulse polio, dose distribution including Covid-19.

 

Dr Shubham Dhoot - National Award for Individual Excellence

Pune’s Dr Shubham Dhoot received the prestigious Award for his outstanding social services.  He is an Ayurvedic Doctor and has disability of blood disorder of 55% since birth.  At a young age of 19, he established a voluntary organization of Young Doctor’s in order to provide selfless social services in medical field. He has developed the world’s first Ayurvedic proprietary medicine named ‘Raktamrut’ for blood disorders and has received many awards for his research work in Ayurvedic medicines.

 

 

 Jaysingh Chavhan - National Award for Individual Excellence

 

Wardha District’s Shri Jaysingh Chavhan received the Award for the Year 2022 in the Sarvshresth Divyanjan Category for his outstanding accomplishments in the empowerment of persons with disabilities. He has a locomotor disability of 87%.  An MBA in Finance, he started his own venture of manufacturing soap and detergent under Ranjan Group of Industries. He has many awards to his credit, has won Magnetic Maharashtra Award and had been involved in organizing special training camps to train Divyangjan for self-employment.

 

 

 

 

A total of 25 Awards were presented for Year 2021 and 29 Awards for the Year 2022. The Awards consisted of a Medal, Citation and a purse money.
