New Delhi, 23: The Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, will lay the foundation stone of an international standard  memorial of  Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at a programme to be held at  MMRDA Ground ,  in Mumbai near Raj Bhavan tomorrow.  He will also perform ‘Bhumipujan’ and   ‘Jalpujan’ of the proposed memorial which is likely to be completed in next three years at an estimated cost of Rs. 2300 crore.
For the memorial which is in the sea bed, water from over 70 rivers of the State besides the soil of all the historic forts of Maharashtra is being brought there for the foundation stone ceremony
The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadanvis  has exhorted the people to come and attend  the function in large number. The memorial will be a symbol of  bravery and a fitting tribute to a great warrior  who brought fame to Maharashtra .
World’s Tallest Memorial
Initially planned at 192 meters, the height of the statue may well now be 210 meters, making it to be the tallest statue in the world and it will be spread over an area of 15.96 hectares in the sea. It may be recalled that the proposal to build this memorial was brought in 2002 but for various reasons could not see light of the day. But after taking over as chief minister in 2014Mr. Fadanvis took up the issue on priority level and obtained clearance from different departments of the Center and State government, thereby paving the way for the memorial.

The memorial would have a well-equipped library, garden, visitors’ gallery, helipad and adequate security arrangements. The Memorial will also attract tourists from the country besides abroad.
