Chief Minister Fadnavis urges the Centre to frame a scheme to bring back farmers into institutional credit system




NEW DELHI, Mar 17:
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis urged the Centre to frame a scheme to bring back farmers into institutional credit system in such a way that investment in agriculture doesn't get affected, while also assuring about the willingness of the State Government in sharing the financial burden in this regard. Shri Fadnavis called on the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh during his visit to New Delhi on Friday. Leading a high power delegation comprising the ministers in his state cabinet along with some public representatives.

                   A delegation of Cabinet Ministers from the State, Maharashtra Ministers & MLAs led by CM Devendra Fadnavis met Union Minister Arun Jaitley and Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi. The delegation comprised of Union Minister Dr. Subhash Bhamre, Maharashtra Ministers Pandurang Fundkar, Subhash Desai, Divakar Raote, Subhash Deshmukh, Eknath Shinde, Babanrao Lonikar and Ramdas Kadam. MLA Sanjay Kute, Prashant Bamb, Vijay Auty too were present with CM during this meeting in New Delhi. Apart from requesting the Union Government to frame a scheme to bring back farmers into institutional credit system in such a way that investment in agriculture doesn't get affected, Fadnavis assured that in order to achieve sustainability in agriculture, investment is need of the hour and the State too is ready to contribute its share in this scheme to help farmers.
                  CM said that the State Government is determined to free the farmers in the State from all their debts, while informing that there are total 1 crore 18 lakh farmers in the state with a burden of Rs. 1 lakh 5 thousand crore of debts. He told that around 31 lakh farmers out this total have steeped over their returning limits of the loans and they can get out of the limits of getting institutional loans from the credit societies, which are also crucial in the entire chain. If the farmers are drawn out of this chain, they might suffer huge losses and in order to avoid this, the Centre to formulate a scheme to bring the farmers back in the credit limits of the financial institutions, urged the CM.

               Informing that the total burden of farmers in the State amounting to Rs. 30 thousand, 500 crore, Fadnavis, told the union ministers during this meeting that the State Government has increased its investments in the agricultural sector. He told that the State government trying its best to take the agriculture in the state beyond conventional loop of assistance and rehabilitation. He told that the investment worth Rs. 19 thousand, 500 crore has so far been made in the agriculture and allied sectors. Apart from this, an assistance of Rs. 11 thousand, 500 crore has been provided as financial assistance through various schemes to help countering the drought.
