IIMC LAUNCHES PG DIPLOMA IN MARATHI JOURNALISM FROM TODAY : MOVE AIMS AT BOOSTING REGIONAL MEDIA :




New Delhi, 31: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, premier media training institute and communication think-tank of the country, would be launching the first ever Post Graduate Diploma programme in Marathi Journalism from its Western Regional Campus at Amravati, in Maharashtra from today, 1st August, 2017.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, would unveil the bust of great freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak at the inaugural function at IIMC, New Delhi. The students and faculty members from IIMC, Amravati would be attending the inaugural ceremony online from their District.
Members of Parliament from Amravati Shri Anandrao Vithoba Adsul & Shri Anil Shirole from Pune Constituency would grace this occasion as special guests.
Paving this new initiative, the Director General IIMC, Shri K G Suresh was contacted for this regional venture, he said, “The introduction of the course is expected to give a boost to Marathi journalism and aims at providing skilled manpower to the burgeoning regional language media in the State”. Adding further he said, “1st August has been decided as the day of inauguration by IIMC for it is the 97th Punya Tithi of the icon of fearless & ideal journalism, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. We salute his selfless service to the nation”.
Speaking on the new curriculum, he emphasized, “Besides important journalistic aspects such as reporting, editing, media laws and ethics, the new course will have components of Marathi language and history of Marathi media. Eminent academicians in media and Marathi language and senior journalists would impart training to these students”.
The All India entrance examination for the course was held on 27th May, 2017. Examination centres were in Nagpur and Mumbai, while interviews for the shortlisted candidates were held in Amravati. The launch of Marathi Journalism would strengthen the regional media and would go a long way to help students to carve a niche for themselves in their careers.
