New Delhi, 29: Country’s 1504 Schools have been included in the second phase of the 'Atal Tinkering Lab' innovative scheme launched by the Niti Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission. Government of India’s flagship programme. Of which, 116 schools from Maharashtra are included. The NITI Aayog has recently announced in this regard.
With a vision to ‘Cultivate one Million children in India as Neoteric Innovators’, Atal Innovation Mission is establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across India. The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc
Atal tinkering labs are being set up for the purpose of developing and designing innovative concepts of education for school students and honing their skills. In the first phase, 928 schools of last year were included under this innovative scheme, which included 75 schools of Maharashtra. Now , including both the phases students of 191 schools in Maharashtra will get the benefit of this scheme. In the 388 districts and 79 smart cities across the country, 2 thousand 432 schools have been covered under this scheme.
In order to foster inventiveness among students, ATL would conduct different activities ranging from regional and national level competitions, exhibitions, workshops on problem solving, designing and fabrication of products, lecture series etc. at periodic intervals. For this, a state-of-art laboratory would be set up in these schools to develop new concepts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in school students, and financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh will be given to each of the schools selected. Students of class 6 to 12 will benefit from this scheme.
Modern laboratories in 116 schools in Maharashtra
The Niti Aayog has declared inclusion of 116 schools in Maharashtra in the second phase. It comprises of 11 schools in Pune district, 10 schools in Mumbai city and 10 schools in Kolhapur district. District wise selection statistics of schools in Maharashtra are as follows.
