New Delhi 23: In the event
of natural calamities or any other disasters, the Prime Minister's National Relief
Fund (PMNRF) provides assistance to the victims. Presently, this fund has a deposit of Rs. 2
Thousand 875 crore 10 lakhs and the assistance disbursal of Rs. 2086 crore have
been made from the fund between 2010 to 2017.
The PMNRF was established in the year 1948 with a purpose to assist
displaced persons from Pakistan. The resources of the PMNRF are now utilized
primarily to render immediate relief to families of those killed in natural
calamities like floods, cyclones and earthquakes, etc. and to the victims of
the major accidents and riots. Assistance from PMNRF is also rendered, to
partially defray the expenses for medical treatment like heart surgeries,
kidney transplantation, cancer treatment and acid attack etc
Deposit to the tune of Rs 2741
crore in last Five Years
A total fund of Rs 3308
crores 88 lakhs was deposited during the last eight years between 2010 and
November 2017. This was in the form of donations and interest on the PMNRF. An assistance to the tune of of Rs. 2086.64
crore in the same period has been provided to the needy and the affected. In
the last five years, 2741 crore 41 lakhs have been deposited in this fund. In
the year 2010-11, there was a balance amount of Rs 1625 crores 64 lakhs and till
November 2017 this amount has increased to Rs. 2875 crores 10 lakhs.

crores financial assistance to the victims of Maharashtra
A total of 4 crore 76 lakhs
funding has been provided from the Prime Minister's National Assistance Fund to
the victims of Pune’s Malin village landslide, Pune Bakery fire, the flood
situation in the State, building collapses at Ghatkopar and Bhendi Bazar, the
Elphinstone railway station stampede to the relatives of the deceased.

crores for Jammu & Kashmir flood situation
In the year 2014,
about Rs. 743 crores fund was provided to combat the flood situation arising in
Jammu & Kashmir and assistance to the disaster victims, and an assistance
of Rs 142 crores was given to National Disaster Management Agency for aiding
medical facilities. In 2013, funds worth
Rs 112 crore as relief fund were rendered in Uttarakhand flood situation. In
the last eight years, the maximum funding of 624 crores was spent in the year
2015-16.
Maharashtra’s 41 hospitals
are empanelled
Assistance from PMNRF is also rendered, to partially defray the expenses
for medical treatment like heart surgeries, kidney transplantation, cancer
treatment and acid attack etc. Nominated hospitals on
national level have been included oin the national panel to treat the needy for
cardiovascular surgeies, kidney transplantation, acid attack and cancer
treatment. 231 hospitals are included in the panel countrywide, of which, 41
hospitals in Maharashtra are empanelled, which is the largest number. 12 hospitals from Pune, 6 from Nagpur and 5 from
Mumbai have been empanelled.
