04: After holding discussions with the Union Railway and Coal Minister, Shri
Piyush Goyal, Maharashtra State Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule
informed that the demand for provision of adequate quantity of coal would be
met for thermal power plants of the state operative under Mahagenco.
Shri
Bawankule met the Union Railway and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal at Rail Bhawan here
and urged for adequate coal for the smooth running of the thermal power plants
in the state. Member of Parliament, Krupal Tumane, Mahagenco’s Managing
Director Bipin Shrimali, Director (Mining) Shyam Wardhane and senior officials
of Railway and Coal Department of Central Government were also present.
At
present the coal is available in the thermal power plants of Koradi,
Khaparkheda, Chandrapur, Bhusawal, Parli and Nashik, which are under the
Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco). The
scorching summers will definitely require more electricity for its consistent
functioning. The Minister informed that,
in today's meeting, sufficient coal be made available to all the seven thermal
power projects within time to avoid power cuts. The electricity generated is 10170
MW from these seven thermal power plants. The union minister directed the
officers of the Central Coal Department to ascertain that these thermal
projects should be made available as soon as possible.
As
per the agreement, Coal is provided to Mahagenco’s thermal power plants from
the companies falling under the Coal Ministry like, Western Coalfields Limited,
Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, South East Coalfields Limited, Singareni
Collieries Company Limited, Singareni Collieries Company Limited, which is
being received by Maharashtra. However, due to some technical difficulties, there
was shortage of coal to the Mahagenco projects. However, these issues were
discussed in a detailed discussion and redressed. Shri Goyal assured that the
coal will be given to the state as per the terms of the contract.
