April 9: In order to restore and conserve the historic Raigad Fort, a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed between the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Government of Maharashtra, informed the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis here today.
The Chief Minister was in the National Capital to meet the PMO officials to deliberate on State’s various development related issues. The Chairman of Raigad Development Authority and RS Member of Parliament, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Bhosale (Member of the former royal family of Kolhapur and descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ) was also present during this meet. Director General of ASI, Smt. Usha Sharma, CM’s Principal Secretary, Praveen Pardeshi was also present in this meeting.
Rs 600 Cr Plan Project For Restoration and Conservation of Raigad Fort
Informing the media, the Chief Minister said that a review meeting with regards to the restoration and beautification of the historic Raigad fort will be expedited, once the MoU gets inked. The hill fort in adjoining Raigad district, which once served as the capital of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji’s empire would once again regain its authentic look, informed Fadnavis. The state government has sanctioned a Rs 600 crore development plan for the 17th century fort, situated in Raigad district, informed the chief minister. In order to expedite these works, the chief minister urged for some officers from ASI on deputation basis under this project, during the meet. The PMO has given assurance for appointing these officers and the required assistance in making it a state-of-the-art fort, expressed Fadnavis.
GoI To Provide Assistance Funding under ‘Baliraja Chetna Abhiyan’
Under The ‘Baliraja Chetna Abhiyan’, (curbing Farmers’ suicides campaign), the Union Water Resources Minister, Nitin Gadkari has given a nod to execute State’s pending irrigation issues. A review on this was also held, informed CM. Adding further, he said that, the government has sought for seeking approval from the Union Cabinet and adequate funding be provided to execute the pending irrigation projects. The GoI has given approval to the same today, informed Fadnavis. With this, 100 envisaged irrigation projects would be expedited, added the chief minister.
Mumbai’s Slum Dwellers To Get Housing under PMAY
An important decision to provide Housing to Mumbai’s slum dwellers was deliberated in the meeting. Informing on providing housing to the slum dwellers putting up in Mumbai, the chief minister informed that, the government has brought an amendment to Maharashtra Slum Areas Act, 1971, to enable the government to provide houses to ‘ineligible’ slum dwellers residing in hutments built until January 1, 2011. This would help the slum dwellers in Mumbai to get houses under the central government’s ambitious ‘Housing for All’ initiative. The government will provide houses to these slum dwellers from the Central Government’s Prime Minister Awas Yojana. Some of the concerned departments have given their approval, however, approval from all concerned will be sought with next few days, expressed the Chief Minister.
54 Thousand Ha Zudpi forest Land To be allotted to various Projects
Speaking on Zudpi Forest issue, the chief minister informed about the prior two meetings held to deliberate on this issue. Though, many related issues were sorted out, however, approval with regards to allotment and transfer of this land to local self government is still awaited. Many schools, roads have been constructed on this land, however, due to non-approval till date, the government is facing problems in transferring these to local self government. Informing further, Shri Fadnavis said that, the PMO has assured to send this proposal to the law ministry, and sooner this issue would be sorted out.
