New Delhi, 16: The President of India, Shri
Ramnath Kovind, presented the prestigious National GeoScience Awards-2017 to
Scintists for their important contribution in research works done in the field
of geology. These include three Marathi Scientists, Dr. Narendra Nitnaware, Dr.
Sahebrao Sonkamble and Dr. Amit Dharwadkar.
A 'National Geological Award-2017’ function
was organized by the Ministry of Mines at Vigyan Bhavan today. The Scientists working in various research
institutes of mining ministry were honored by the President for the
contribution in the field of geology. At this time, Union Mines Minister
Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Mines Haribhai Parthi Chowdhury and
Secretary of the Ministry Anil Mukim were present at the dais. Three eminent Marathi
scientists were honored in this function.
Shri Narendra Vithoba Nitnaware works as a Deputy Director General Geological Survey of India at Minzari in Chandrapur District. He has discovered occurrences of base metal mineralization in about 3km long quartz reef in Minjhari areaa of Western Bastar Cration in the northern part of Chandrapur District of Maharashtra. He and his team have successfully established a concealed and economically viable Copper prospect in quartz reef in 2000sq km by applying an innovative conceptual model. In recognition of his significant contribution in the field of mineral discovery and exploration, he was conferred the National GeoScience Award-2017. He was honored with three lakh rupees and a Certificate of Honor.
Dr. Sahebrao Sonkamble, a Scientist of CSIR- National Geophysical Research Institute has significantly contributed in groundwater exploration through electromagnetic survey. Shri Sonkambale was conferred with this Award consisting of three lakh rupees and a certificate of merit.
Director of the Geological Survey of India, Shri Amit Dharwadkar and team have participated in the Antarctic and Arctic campaigns and have done outstanding work in the field of Antarctic and Arctic research with a team of four-member scientists. In recognition of his significant contributions in the field of Glaciology and Arctic and Antartic Research, Shri Dharwadkar was conferred for his contribution. Three lakh rupees and a certificate of merit constituted the award.
