New Delhi, 16: Maharashtra’s three Research Scientists, Dr. Prashant Deshmukh, Dr. Sakharam Kale and Dr.Somnath Holkar were felicitated with prestigious Nehru Award for their outstanding contributions in the field of research in Agricultural Engineering and Crop Protection.
In a felicitation event held on the occasion of 90th Foundation Day of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Pusa, many scientists and research institutions were awarded for their extensive contribution in research works under various agricultural sectors. The award ceremony was graced by Union Agricultural Minister, Radha Mohan Singh, Union MoS Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and ICAR’s Secretary and DG Dr. Trilochan Mahapatra.
A total of 18 Research scientists and organizations were felicitated at during this time. Dr. Prashant Deshmukh, Senior Scientist ICAR, CIRCOT, Mumbai was honored with Jawaharlal Nehru Award for PG, outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Agricultural and allied sciences-2017 for Agricultural Engineering. Dr. Deshmukh has worked on ‘Development and Testing of Arecanut Husk Fiber Separation Machine.
He reported properties for Arecanut husk and fiber first time for industrial processing applications and developed a beater type are Arecanut husk fibre separation machine, which is light in weight, portable, farmer friendly , easy to use and costing Rs. 12 Thousand 700 with cost to benefit ratio of 1:1.86 . For this immense contribution in Agriculture Engineering, Dr. Deshmukh was awarded Nehru Award with a prize money of 50 thousand, Gold medal and a Citation.
Dr. Sakharam Kale’s Research Contribution
Dr. Sakharam Kale was bestowed with Nehru Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of Agriculture Engineering. He has researched extensively on 1121 Pusa Basmati Rice variety. Hailing from Kanadi Village of Yeola Taluka in Nashik, Dr. Kale researched in Agriculture Engineering in the year 2016. This research has yielded fruitfully for the Indian Economy, fetching Rs. 18,000 cr. through foreign currency, said the Union Minister Shri Singh. Dr. Kale was awarded with a prize money Rs. 50,000, Gold Medal and a Citation.
Dr. Somnath Holkar’s Research Contribution
Hailing from Osmanabad District, Dr. Holkar has been consistently researching on Crop Protection. Presently working at Pravara Nagar of Ahmed Nagar District, he was earlier working with Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow where he completed his Ph.D research in Crop Protection. He was awarded with prize money Rs. 50,000, Gold Medal and a Citation.
