Make available 10 ISO tankers for
transportation of liquid oxygen
Chief Secretary tables demands
before Union Cabinet Secretary
New Delhi , May 4:-
Maharashtra is facing the second wave of Corona virus and the number of
infected patients in 16 districts is on the rise. Due to this situation, more
oxygen is necessary for the treatment and as such demand of oxygen in the state
is increasing. On the backdrop of the necessity of more oxygen the union
government should supply 200 metric ton O2 in addition to that being supplied
to Maharashtra today. Similarly, 10 more tankers should be made available for
transportation of the liquid oxygen. These demands were made by the chief
secretary of the state Sitaram Kunte to the Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba
through a letter.
Chief Minister Mr Uddav
Thackeray is consistently taking the review of the
oxygen, Remdsivir and the beds available in the state
as the number of patients is on the rise. Mr Thakeray asked the chief secretary
to table the demands with the union government. According to his direction, the
chief secretary Mr Kunte wrote a letter to the Cabinet Secretary.
Presently, in Maharashtra there are six
lakh 63 thousand 758 active patients. Out of these, 78 thousand 884 patients
are on Oxygen whereas 24 thousand 787 infected patients are in the Intensive
Care Unit (ICU’s).
The number of patients in 16
districts of the state including Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara,
Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nandurbar, Parbhani, Hingoli, Amravati, Buldhana,
Wardha, Gadchiroli and Chandrapur is continuously soaring and hence demand for
oxygen has increased. The chief secretary also mentioned in the letter that
oxygen audit is had been started in every district of the state.
Considering the increasing demand of
oxygen in the state, the union government should supply 200 metric ton of
additional oxygen besides the present supply. He also said that the lifting
facility of oxygen should be convenient for the state. The earlier decision for
oxygen availability from of RINL of Odisha, Vizag and Jindal Steel is yet on
the papers.
Presently 125 metric ton
oxygen is supplied from the Jamnagar city of Gujarat and additional hundred
metric ton oxygen, per day, which makes a total of 225 metric ton, should be
supplied. He also requested that 230 metric ton oxygen should be supplied from
Bhilai.
In his letter the chief secretary
further said that both these destinations are geographically close to
Maharashtra and one hand the transportation will be more convenient and on the
other hand, patients can be provided oxygen on time to save their lives.
The union government has received ISO
tankers from Singapore, Dubai and oil producing companies of other nations for
supplying liquid oxygen. At least 10 tankers out of these should be made
available for Maharashtra so that it will be convenient for Maharashtra to
transport liquid oxygen from Angul in Orissa through the RoRo service, the
chief secretary added.
