‘Arun Khopkar’ Got Sahitya Akademi Award


      

NEW DELHI 16:Renowned Marathi writer, Arun Khopkar honoured by India’s most prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award of this year for his Marathi book ‘Chalat Chitravyooh’ a collection of his memoirs. The award was presented by  Akademi President Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari at the ongoing annual “Festival of Letters” at Ficci Auditorium in the Capital today.
       The ceremony was addressed by the chief guest, Eminent Urdu scholar, Gopi Chand Narang. The Vice President Chadrashekhar Kambar  and Secretary of Sahitya Akademi K. Sreenivasarao were also present on the the dias. Congratulating the contigent of authors Mr. Tiwari upheld the role of a writer in the society, and explained the art of writing. Sahitya Akademi Award has recognized premier works in 23 Indian languages includes six books of short stories, six of poetry, four novels, two books each of essays, criticism and plays ,and one memoir.
     Arun Khopkar is renowned Marathi writer, an Internationally acclaimed film maker, film scholar, teacher and actor. The Award winning title, Chalat Chitravyooh ,is a collection of 12 essays in the form of memoirs and appreciation of renowned artists of contempory India. The book is valuable addition to art criticism and comparative studies in marathi. Chalat Chitavyooh, reveals the deep commitment of the author to the cultural values of various arts and as such is considered an importment contribution to the genre of memoirs in Marathi. His book also received the Maharashtra  Foundation (USA) award for the most original work in Marathi in 2015. he has received ‘Satyajit Ray Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award ‘ for his contribution to yhe films.
     The Akademi which was established in 1954 awarded these writers a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh  each for their “outstanding books of literary merit.”
      Uday Bhembre was awarded for his book, Karnaparva written in Konkani and Cyrus Mistry from Mumbai received the Akademi award for his novel Chronical of a Corpse Bearer at the ceremony.
