MAHARASHTRA PAVILION: HANDLOOM-HANDICRAFTS STEAL THE SHOW





New Delhi, 15 : The Maharashtra pavilion at the ongoing Bharat Parv here at India Gate lawns has seen more than fifteen thousand visitors so far, thanks to it's rich art and handicrafts. Be it handloom items or footwear, they are in big demand.
Other than Paithani, the Puneri cotton saris are attracting lots of people. "The color combination is awesome as is the design and so I bought two of them", said Dr. Renu from Trivandrum who is a district coordinator in the distance education department.
Equally in demand are Kolhapuri chappals, Warli paintings and bangles made of lac.
Neha Raheja who is a class 11th student and lives in Delhi's Shakti Nagar area said," I bought a kitchen set with Warli paintings on the back side.
Kolhapuri chappals was another item in which lots of visitors seemed to be taking interest."I had seen it or heard about it only in the movies and now when I actually saw them I ended up buying two pairs of them.",said Amarprakash Joshi from Uttam Nagar.
Similarly bangles made of lac were the cynosure of all eyes, obviously women."They are very attractive, with good hue mix and that too at reasonable prices", said an excited Lata Prashar from RK Puram who, like many other women, also bought a dozen of them.
