New Delhi, 1: The historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Rajyabhishek “Coronation” will be this year’s attraction as Maharashtra’s Tableau to be showcased at Rajpath on 26th of January. The team led by renowned art director Nitin Desai has moved to Delhi for the construction of the Tableau.
This year, tableaus of 14 states will be displayed on the 69th Republic Day celebration of India Gate on the Rajpath. A total of 30 states from across the country had claimed for displaying pictures on Rajpath. After various tests, the selection of tableaus of Maharashtra's has been done for this prestigious program.
The Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, organizes the work of concept and designs of the tableau every year. The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on Sunday, in his Mann Ki Baat, said Republic Day celebration in 2018 would be "remembered through the ages" because the government for the first time in India's history would host leaders of 10 Asean countries as chief guests on 26 January. He said, "The Republic Day will be celebrated with leaders of all 10 (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Asean countries coming to India as chief guests. This time, not one but 10 chief guests would grace the Republic Day. This is unprecedented in India's history," the Prime Minister said.
The parade, held annually on January 26, starts from Rajpath and ends at Red Fort in Delhi. Every year on Republic Day, India invites a visiting head of state, who is the state guest of honour (chief guest) for the ceremony. Various States and Union Territories showcase their tableau, and the event concludes with the announcement of best three tableaus. Taking ahead this glorious tradition, this year, Maharashtra will display pictures of 'Shivraji Rajyabhishek' on the Rajpath.
Sir J.J.School of Arts’s retired Prof. Shri Narendra Vichare has designed the tableau with a 3D replica. Under the able guidance of world renowned art director Nitin Desai, the tableau would be constructed and the work in progress is going on at the Delhi Cantonment Area. The replica of 'MeghDambri' (Magnificent Canopy) which was set up at Raigad and the ‘Royal Coronation’ will be presented live at Rajpath. There will be 10 artists performing this royal act.
The Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Maharashtra State has a long tradition of displaying showcasing excellent tableaus. This tableau has already been showcased in the year 1980 and it received the first prize. In 1983, the tableau of 'Bail Pola' (worship of Bull by the farmers) won the first prize. After this, Maharashtra consecutively from 1993 to 1995 bagged first prize. Recently, in 2015, the State of Maharashtra bagged first prize for its tableau, “Pandharichi Wari”.
