Surajkund All Set To Welcome Maharashtra As The ‘Theme State’















New Delhi, 31: The 33rd Surajkund International Crafts Mela is all geared up to welcome the State of Maharashtra as the ‘Theme State’ this year.

A press meet was organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism in Collaboration with Ministry of Tourism at the ‘Surajkund’ Mela venue. Present on the occasion was Shri Yogendra Tripathi, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India and Chairman, Surajkund Mela Authority, Shri Vikas Yadav, IAS, MD, Haryana Tourism Corporation & Chief Administrator, Surajkund Mela Authority, Shri Vijai Vardhan, IAS, Add. Chief Secretary, Department of Tourism, Govt of Haryana & Vice Chairman, Surajkund Mela Authority, and Maharashtra Tourism Department’s Principal Secretary Smt Vinita Singhal.

Speaking to Media after the Conference, Smt Singhal said that, ‘We as a State of Maharashtra are privileged that this year, we are participating as a ‘Theme State’ in the Surajkund Mela. This Mela is internationally acclaimed for its richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural heritage of India.

We have created a replica of the historic Raigad Fort because it is most interesting and occupies a place of pride in our History. Artisans all over Maharashtra will be here to display their handicrafts and handlooms. The ‘Apna Ghar’ at Surajkund Mela, which will host a family from Maharashtra will depict the ‘Wada’ style existing and showcase how rural people live, she informed. Adding further, She said we have brought our traditional cuisine which the North Indians would definitely relish. We call, ‘Maharashtra Unlimited’ because we have Beaches, Tiger Reserves, Forts, Bollywood and there is nothing in the world that is not available in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra will show case its unique heritage and rich culture through various art forms and handicrafts from the State. Traditional Dances, Ballets of Shivaji Maharaj, a replica of ‘Maha Dwar or Maha Darwaja’ will definitely enthrall the audience. The Surajkund Mela will be held till 17th February.

The Surajkund Mela will be inaugurated a the hands of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadanavis and Haryana Chief Minister, Shri Jagdish Khattar on Friday, 1st of February 2019.
