National Capital Celebrates Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti












Atmosphere Echoes with ‘Jai Bhavani Jai Shivaji’ Chants


New Delhi, 19 Feb.: The National Capital was filled with vibrance today, when it celebrated the 389th Birth Anniversary of the Great Maratha Ruler, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The atmosphere was filled with chants of ‘Jai Bhavani Jai Shivaji’ at Maharashtra Sadan, K.G. Marg. Member of Parliament and Patron of All India ShivRajyaBhishek Mahotsav Samiti, Shri Chhatrapati Sambhaji garlanded the life size statue of the Great Warrior and paid rich tributes to Shivaji Maharaj. He was accompanied by his wife at this time. She also paid rich tributes to the Great Maratha Ruler.

The atmosphere echoed with thousands of Maharashtrians gathered at Sadan and chanting Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji. All the men and women were dressed in traditional attire and donned traditional ‘Phetas’ to the beats of ‘Dhol-Tasha’, Lezim, performed ‘Mallakhambh’ draping Navvaris and performed Yogasanas on ropes.

'Jayanti Procession Stole the Limelight in Capital’

A grand procession with thousands of Maharashtrians who came from all the corners of Maharashtra were present. The whole atmosphere looked joyful and in a festive mood and sounded vibrant with all the audience wearing traditional attires. The men wore a kurta-pyjama and saffron ‘Pheta’ and women were dressed in traditional paithani and a ‘Navwari’ (Nine yard saree) donning the ‘Pheta’and the traditional'Nath'. Every one was in joyous mood and a yatra commenced from Maharashtra Sadan.

The procession included camels, Horses and elephants and people dancing on the beats of Dhol-Tasha. The sight was so appealing for the women folk – ladies and girls were dressed beautifully and danced, played drums and performed ‘Mallakhamb’ in the nine yard saree, which was breathtaking. The procession ended at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts at Janpath.

Sant Ravidas Jayanti Celebrated in Capital

Revered Saint Ravidas Jayanti was Celebrated at Maharashtra Sadan. The Resident Commissioner, Shri Samir Sahai paid floral tributes to the great saint. Present on the occasion were Asistant Resident Commissioner Shri Ishu Sandhu, Ajit Negi, Ms Suman Chandra and Public Relations Officer Amarjyot Kaur Arora and all the staff of both the offices present.
