Delhi, June 28: Maharashtra tops with the highest number of 3661 Startups under
the Startup India Initiative across the country, followed by Karnataka and
Delhi with 2847 and 2552 Startups. A total of 19,351 Startups have come up
across the country.
The
Start-up initiative was launched on 16th January, 2016. Since its inception, 19 thousand 3hundred and
51 Startups across the country have been granted recognition by the Department
for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) up till 24th of
June, 2019.
Under
the Startup India Scheme, eligible companies can get recognized as Startups by
DPIIT, in order to access a host of tax benefits, easier compliance, IPR
fast-tracking & more.
The Government of India has established a
Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS) with a corpus of Rs 10 thousand crore with an
objective to provide funding support for development and growth of innovation
driven enterprises. The DPIIT is the monitoring agency and Small Industries
Development of India (SIDBI) is the operating agency for FFS. Based on the
progress of the scheme and availability of funds, the corpus funding would be
funded accordingly. For the funding for Startups, SIDBI has committed Rs 3,123.20
crore to 49 SEBI registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs). These funds
have raised a corpus fund of Rs 27,478 crores. Rs 483.46 crores have been drawn
from Fund of Funds for Startups.The AIFs have invested a total of Rs 1625.73
crores into 247 startups.
State Second in
Receiving AIFs For 68 Startups
The three States which received highest investment
under AIFs under Fund of Funds for Startups include Karnataka with Rs 499.85
crores for 75 startups, Maharashtra with Rs 440.38 crores for 68 Startups, followed
by Delhi with an investment of Rs 252.92
crores for 46 Startups.
The
top five States with highest number of recognized Startups include Maharashtra
with 3661 Startups, Karnataka with 2847, Delhi with 2552, Uttar Pradesh with
1566 and Telangana with 1080 Startups.
Seven
States and Union Territories with least number of recognized Startups include
Sikkim and Daman & Diu with Two each, Orissa, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh
with Three each and Meghalaya and Dadra and Nagar Haveli with 4 each. The
information was shared by the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush
Goyal in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
