New Delhi, 21: The State of Maharashtra & Haryana will go in for Assembly Elections on October 21 and the counting will be held on October 24th, informed the Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Sunil Arora today. With this, the code of conduct came into force from immediate effect.
In a Press Conference held today at Election Commission of India, the Chief Election Commissioner announced the above dates of poll. Accompanying him were Election Commissions, Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra.
Poll Schedule for Maharashtra
The seats for Vidhan Sabha in Maharashtra are 288, where as in Haryana, there are a total of 90 seats. The polling for all 378 seats will be held in at single phase on 21st October and the counting of votes will be held three days later, on 24th of October. He further informed that Maharashtra has a total of 8.94 cr voters in 2019. The voter population has increased by 5.61% and a total of 95 Thousand 473 polling booths will be operative. The expenditure limit for contesting the elections has been limited to 28 lakhs per candidate.
Speaking on fair and transparent elections, Shri Arora informed that adequate deployment of Central Armed Forces has been has been made for both the States, including the Naxalite areas of Gadchiroli and Gondia Districts of Maharashtra.
The issue of notification will be on 27th of September 2019. The last date of nomination will be 4th of October, scrutiny will be held on 5th October and the last date of withdrawal will be 7th of October 2019. The polling would be held on 21st and the verdict would be pronounced on 24th of October, 2019.
Rules to be followed during Code of Conduct
During the entire election period starting from the date of announcement of election, public address system or loudspeakers shall not be permitted at night between night 10 pm to 6.00am
Polling Stations Managed by Women
As a part of the commitment towards gender equality and greater constructive participation of women in electoral process, the Commission has directed that at least one polling station to be managed exclusively by women in every assembly.

Effective use of Media
Now, since the code of conduct has come into effect, all the advertisements, electronic media, cable network, Radio including private FM channels, cinema halls, audio-visuals, SMS, social media and internet websites shall come within the purview of pre-certification.
By elections In 18 States for 64 Assembly Seats
The polling for 64 Bye election seats in 18 states will also be held simultaneously. One Lok Sabha seat of Samastipur in Bihar will also be held on the same day. The follows are Arunachal Pradesh- one, Assam-4, Bihar-5, Chhatisgarh-one, Gujarat-4, Himachal Pradesh-2, Karnataka-15, Kerala-5, Madhya Pradesh-one, Meghalaya-one, Odisha-one, Puducherry-one, Punjab-4, Rajasthan-2, Sikkim-3, Tamil Nadu-two, Telangana-one, Uttar Pradesh-11.
